7 Tips for OET Listening:

1. Make sure the audio is clear.

It is your responsibility to inform the staff if you have any problem with the audio quality or you do not hear the audio.

You need not try to correct things on your own.

2. Try to Memorize the questions before listening

Remember, you will be given time to focus on the questions before the actual recording begins. So try memorizing the questions before you start listening and answering.

3. Prepare yourself to understand a variety of accents

Listening practice is essential before you appear for the OET exam. It would help if you listened to a variety of accents to improve your ability to pick specific words you need. Try listening to a various range of accents such as American, British, Australian, and so on.

4. Take Note and use it as a guide

Always take notes while listening to the audio.

Making notes is the best way to remain focused while listening.

Notes not only help you to make logic of the sentences; also, it guides you through the conversation and helps not to get lost while listening to the recording.

5. Don’t try to understand every word

OET listening is not about testing your ability to listen and understand every word. So need not to take stress about focusing on each word uttered during the recording.

You need to understand the dialogue as a whole and pick out some specific words or phrase which you need to answer.

6. Complete the question booklet correctly

In total, there are three parts in the listening sub-test.

Part A includes two extracts, and you have to write your answer directly in the answer booklet.

Whereas, Parts B and C are computer-based, so read the instructions carefully provided on the front page of the booklet.

7. Do Not Just Hover Over One Same Question

Many students who get stuck over one question, remember you always can get back to that tricky question afterward.

It is always sensible to leave that tricky question for afterward rather than wasting your time in figuring out the answer.

But also never leave any question answered, it is wise to guess the answer you don’t know.
