Strategies OET Listening Part A
#1 Focus on Patient during conversation
The audio is a conversation between a healthcare professional with a patient. In conversation the patient does the most talking and you have to focus on what the patient is saying while listening. So, write down what the patient is saying and you will get your answer for the fill in the blank.
#2 Try to find the word
The second tip is that the answer to fill in the blank can be more than one word. So be focused and try to grab the key information which can be the right answer to the question. Keep in mind that the answer usually will not be more than 3 words.
#3 guess the word
The third important tip for OET listening part A is that the word or phrase that you write into the blank will not change from the audio. Guess the answer by looking at the words before and after the blank.
#4 Look For Synonym
The fourth important thing you need to be aware of is that in question the test taker will use synonym to confuse you. But you have to understand the meaning of words used in audio. That is, the written and the aural differ from each other. Let’s take our example from above.
